Rubben - the blue trail

The mountain Rubben delimits the valley of Innset to the south-west. From Innset you can catch eye on a small radio/TV mast on the flat mountaintop that transmits two radio channels, one TV channel, and supports two mobile phone systems.

On the way to the peak

A hiking tour up to the 930 yds high Rubben takes from two to four hours. In the summertime you will probably need more time when bringing children along.

With small children, e.g. take a night in tent into account at the altitude of the timberline. Then you have an exciting two-days-long trip for the children. In case they have trouble with sleeping in a tent, the way back to Innset is not too far.

In winter you can climb the mountain on skis or with snow-shoes. At this time of the year, the river Dittielva is frozen. Therefore choose a somewhat different trail within the timberline.

The tractor path

Description

First, take the road that leads to Lake Altevatn. After 550 yds, before the road starts going uphill and the asphalt changes to unmade road, turn right and cross the wooden bridge. From here return to Lake Veslevatn following the tractor path.

SUMMER

In summer, after about 1100 yds on the tractor path turn left before the BARRIER - then follow the marked trail to Dittiskardet. Small, red, wooden signs direct the way up. After gaining some 110 yds of altitude, turn right at the sign indicating bru, and continue along the small trail that leads to a bridge across the river Dittielva. 220 yds after the bridge you will encounter a tractor path that will lead you to the top of Rubben.

WINTER

In winter, follow the tractor path another 550 yds and pass the red cabin in the forest, which you can already make out from the huskyfarm on the opposite side of Lake Veslevatn. 220 yds after the cabin, the road forks: follow the tractor path towards Rubben. Simply follow the path until you reach the timberline. The river Dittielva that you crossed at the bottom of the valley is hardly to be seen from here.

Famous view from the mountain peak
Famous view from the mountain peak

In winter, above the timberline the tractor path disappears under the snow. Therefore, find your own best way in north-eastern direction. By doing so you cannot fail to see the radio/TV mast.

The mountain peak

From the mountain top you will enjoy a magnificent view over Innset valley and the huskyfarm. To the east you will see the first kilometres of Lake Altevatn, and in the west you will discover the valley towards Setermoen.

Above the timberline there are several possibilities for longer tours to higher summits and even better views. The shortest way back is to follow the path you came up.
